I started bowling league when my sister needed a
bowler. I have been bowling leagues ever since in places like San
Francisco, Santa Rosa, Daly City, Millbrae, South San Francisco and
Sonora, which I think gives me a unique perspective on the
demographic differences of bowling in the cities, urban and rural
areas. I became a league secretary under the tutelage of Joan
Feinbloom. Became a youth certified coach under AJBC in the early
1980s, was active in youth bowling when my children were younger and
have been involved with my local association off and on as a
director, BVL Chair and BVL Co-Chair and Fun Tournament Chair, or
just as a volunteer. It is my hope and goal to help promote the
sport of bowling and working with the centers, bowlers and
associations to accomplish those hopes and goals. |

It was 1956 and I joined my first WIBC
league with my Mom, the Ladies Masters in Huntington, New York. I
averaged 146 that year. I was 11. I was hooked for life. My
Mom was a great bowler and taught me how to bowl over the next few
years. There were no youth leagues so I was an "adult" bowler
early in life. I wish I had the opportunity that our youths
have today. I got a few lessons from the great Andy Verapapa. He
thought I was pretty good and worked with me at his old handout,
Century Lanes. I didn't realize at the time that he was such a
famous guy. In my early twenties, I became involed in the
administrative end of the game. I was elected to the board in my
association in New York. A number of years went by adn after my two
sons joined my family, we moved to Vista, CA. The day I
arrived, I went to the local bowl and signed up for a scratch match
play league. My sons followed the year after that at ages 5 and 7.
They bowled and I became a youth coach and again, I was hooked. I
have served as the Local Secretary and President of the North County
YABA; President, VP and Sgt-At-Arms, Director of the Avocado
WBA. I was appointed to the position of Secretary-Treasurer (later
Exec. Director) of the CA State YABA in 1989 and I continued in that
position until the CSYABA merged with the CSBA and CWBA in 2006 with
whom I serve as Second VP, Youth Tournament Director and Youth
Committee Chair. I have served on several National Committees
and am a Master Instructor, Instate Instructor and Bronze Level
Coach. I love my sport and my "kids". It doesn't get any
better than this. |

I come from a sport oriented family. I
played fast pitch softball (pitcher) and volleyball until I was 21.
When I had to settle down and concentrate on my career (day job)
that’s when I considered picking up the bowling ball. I started
bowling at the age of 23. I quickly started bowling 4 leagues a
week. This was great as you can bowl rain or shine day or night. I
started with 170 avg. A great mentor (Diana Wilson) encouraged me to
bowl a 600 series and soon I joined the 600 club. I won the National
600 Doubles event in Las Vegas . I bowled many tournaments and won
on the local level, Souza Invitational, LVT Doubles, and soon
started the climb with my avg. 190. Started bowling scratch leagues.
One night I will never forget was when I was asked to sub in Ladies
Classic. My idols Kim Terrell and Pat Rossler were bowling. I was
spellbound. I soon rolled a 300, which was rejected at that time.
But, I again rolled 2 more that are sanctioned and a high series of
789 without a 300. When women were able to hold WIBC/ABC cards in
1994, I was the first women to roll a 300 holding both cards in
Santa Clara County. Later, I joined the PWBA and bowled some tour
stops and regionals. I am a current member of 700 club. I was on the
SJWBA as a director. Later, I joined the SCCBA as a director. As the
SJWBA started changing I was asked to come back. I was soon elect as
their President. I was the out going too. Soon I came on the
transition board for the soon to be merged assoc. There were trials
and uncertainty but the membership made the move to merge (Youth,
Women and Men). I was also the President of the newly merged Santa Clara
County USBC and have moved on in 2009. I am also very proud to be the
newly elect director for CUSBC. I have always said that
the best bowlers come from California! |
