The 2009 Pepsi Championships finished with the State Finals
being held this past May 2-3 at Classic Bowl in Daly City. The
District Finals were held this past March at eight different
locations over two different weekends. A total of 1,320 bowlers
participated in the 11-Under Division and 2,380 participated in
the 12-up Divisions (3,682 total). Thank you to the 2009 hosting
centers: Tall Pines Entertainment, Paradise; AMF Mardi Gras,
Sacramento; Diablo Bowl, Concord; Yosemite, Modesto; Buena
Lanes, Ventura; Empire Bowl, Redlands; Cal Bowl, Lakewood; and
Admiral Robinson, San Diego.
The State Finals were held at Classic Bowl in Daly City on May
2-3. We had 410 bowlers travel from across the state to attend.
There was a change this year in that there is no longer a Pepsi
National Finals for the Handicap division bowlers. Instead we
are sending the top four Scratch Division finalists (2 boys/2
girls) to attend the Jr. Gold National Finals in Indianapolis,
IN this July. Those four bowlers will also receive a travel
stipend along with their state scholarship. And who are those
four bowlers? They are Tyler Duncan (Boys
Hdcp-Kentwig Lanes); Alex Greiner (Boys Scratch-Albany
Lanes) Nicole Tweedy (Girls Hdcp-Regency Lanes); &
Amanda Fry (Girls Scratch-Fireside Lanes). Alex and Amanda
will be joined with Chris Valenzuela (Mission Hills) and
Ashley Ajimura (Cloverleaf Bowl) to attend the Jr. Gold
National Finals. Tyler earned the largest scholarship award of
$3,700 for his first place finish in the 12-up Boys Handicap
division.
We
are extremely thankful for our many sponsors this year. For the
9th year in a row, BowlersParadise.com and
Elitebowling.com has provided bowling bags for each of our
district and state raffles. We received bowling balls from
Pinpoint Bowling Concepts (located inside AMF Beverly
Bowl-Montebello), Champions Bowling & Embroidery (located
inside Fountain Bowl-Fountain Valley), The Bowlers Alley
(located inside Buena Lanes-Ventura), Todd’s Pro Shop
(located inside AMF Mardi Gras Lanes-Sacramento) and RotoGrip.
Digital Team Photography also donated a portion of the
State Finals picture sales directly to the scholarship fund.
Their support is a direct result of how we can raise so much
money in this great event. Please help us to thank them by
patronizing their businesses.
Thanks to all of the District Directors for their hard work in
running the District Finals this year and to all of those that
helped them. Also tremendous thanks to the District Finals
hosting centers and to Classic Bowl for their superb
hospitality! All funds are held with SMART so be sure to
contact them immediately if you do not receive confirmation of
your funds.
Congratulations again to our four champions: Tyler, Alex,
Nicole and Amanda and to all of the scholarship
winners! Thanks again to everyone for supporting the largest
scholarship tournament in California. Remember, the
BEST BOWLERS COME FROM CALIFORNIA!

the district and state finals sites helping us to raise more
scholarship dollars. Please support these sponsors and help us THANK
them for their generous contributions and support!
Thank you for
your support and participation in one of the largest scholarship
events in California. Last year we worked extremely hard with your
help in raising funds so that we could award $70,000 in
scholarships! With the rising cost of education, this tournament
strongly benefits many young bowlers on their way to a promising
future.
