Sam Carter
2009 Superior Performance Recipient

Linda Johnson
2009 Meritorious Service Recipient

The California State USBC is proud to announce the recipients of the 2008-2009 Hall Of Fame. They are Linda Johnson for Meritorious Service and Sam Carter for Superior Performance.

Linda Johnson is from Covina and is currently the 1st V.P. for the State USBC. Linda started bowling in 1964 in a “learn to bowl” league and never looked back. In 1974 she was elected to the SGVWBA board of directors and worked her way up to secretary in 1979-80. In 1981 Linda began her service to the CWBA, which lasted for 24 years. During that time she was a director for 7 years, Sergeant-at-Arms for 5 years, VP’s for 5 years and President for 6 years. One of Linda’s loves is the California BVL, which she is very active in.

In the Superior Performance category Sam Carter is to receive that honor.
Mr. Carter is no stranger to high scores and awards. His highest certified average is 223 and he owns over 20 certified 300 games and is most proud of having a 300 and an 800 in each of the last 4 decades. He has bowled in numerous CA State Masters and holds the record for most consecutive 700 series in the finals at 4 (3 game set). He is 2nd in all-time prize money winnings in the Masters at $7235 and has been in the finals 14 times. He remains active in the NCST and has 12 first place finishes to his credit. Sam is also a record holder in the ABC/USBC National Championships where his lifetime average (minimum of 20 years eligibility) in the tournament is 208 with 189 games putting him 22nd on the list and the only Californian listed in the top 50 bowlers. Sam has also been on Brunswick’s bowling staff for the last 8 years. The help of Brunswick and their staff as well as many of his close friends and teammates have been instrumental to his success.

These two deserving individuals will receive their honors at the Riverside Marriott Hotel on June 14th during the California State USBC convention.
