LAURIE SOTO
2011 Hall of Fame Superior Performance category

AL HOFFMANN & BUTCH WITTMAN JR.
Hall of Fame Meritorious Service category

It is with great pleasure to announce the recipients of the 2011 CUSBC Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service and Superior Performance. In the Superior Performance category we welcome LAURIE SOTO. She has numerous 300 games and 800 series, back-to-back State Queen’s titles in 1999 and 2000, and two more State Queen’s titles in 2006 and 2010 making four Queens titles in total. She has also been inducted into the San Fernando Valley WBA Hall of Fame. Laurie currently holds the women’s high average of 235 in the North Los Angeles County USBC and has always supported her local and state tournaments presenting herself as a professional both on and off the lanes. She will make a fine selection to the Hall! In the

Meritorious Service award we have two gentlemen to honor: AL HOFFMANN and CLARENCE (BUTCH) WITTMAN, JR. Al, as most of you know just completed his term as the President of the CUSBC from 2006 thru 2010. He helped guide the transition from three independent state organizations into one and dedicated many hours and efforts to make the CUSBC what it is today. He has been involved in bowling starting as a director in the Marin County B.A. He was a director, officer and eventually President in the California State Bowling Association. He was a director for the ABC from 1997 to 2005 and an ABC/USBC delegate for 17 years. He is also a certified lane inspector from 1987 to the present. Al stays very active in the B.V.L and has been married to his wife Bea for almost 52 years. Mr. Hoffman truly deserves this recognition.

CLARENCE (BUTCH) WITTMAN, JR. is our other selection for Meritorious Service and I think any of you who know Butch realize the many years of support he has given. He started in the Northern Santa Barbara County B.A in 1964. He also was involved in the Missile City Junior B.A. in 1964. He was a director and V.P in both until 1969. In 1982 Butch was hired as a Field Representative and Consultant for ABC/Bowling Inc. for almost 20 years representing ABC, WIBC, YABA and USA Bowling. He had six areas he represented including California. He helped associations with any problems they might have and kept a line of communications open with the parent organizations. Because of his extensive public speaking ability he was often called on to be Master of Ceremonies at many functions. He was MC for the Southern California Hall of Fame banquet, a record 7 times. Some of his honors are So Cal Bowling Writers Association Ray Handley Memorial award for historic contributions to bowling, Life Member USBC and Life Member of the Northern Santa Barbara County B.A. He has been married to his wife Sheri for over 46 years and has two grown children and one grandchild. Congratulations Butch, you too are very deserving of the great honor! All three Hall of Fame recipients will be inducted at the State Convention on Sunday, June 12 at the Ontario Radisson Hotel.
