First time Masters participant, Jason Heggemeier from Castaic went undefeated into the championship match and lost his first match of the weekend to John Sowell from Vista, winner of the Loser’s bracket. Forcing one last final match, Jason came out on top winning the 2008 Masters title, a check for $900 and will receive a free entry into the 2009 USBC National Masters event as well as berths into the next two California State Masters events. 

Over $12,000 was awarded in prize money to the 63 finalists and we had a turnout of 123 total entrants from the Open Championship qualifying and the Last Chance qualifier. Kevin Gannon from Lakewood earned the $100 high game bonus and the $100 two-game high series bonus in the finals with a 300 game and 556 series. Other high game honor scores in the finals: Lyle Rollins 299, Michelle Silver 297 & 296 and Skip Pavone 289. Larry Dickens from Redding averaged 240.39 for 18 games taking over the lead for the all-time Masters high average in the finals making his mark in the record books. 

The Friday night Last Chance qualifier had 56 total entries. 35 berths were filled from that squad as there were 3 additional openings from the Open Championship qualifying to fill.  Dewaine West from Temecula lead the qualifier shooting 300 and a 1,512 six game series and Sergio Lopez rounded out the cut with a 1,181 series.
