Welcome to the 2016 California Pepsi USBC Youth Championships.  To date, the Pepsi Youth Championships nationwide has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships — it is estimated that at least $500,000 in scholarships will be awarded nationwide this season alone. By conducting the league level competition you are giving your bowlers an opportunity to help finance their college education. California awarded $44,500 in scholarships last year and has awarded over $853,801 since 1998.

The two league level qualifying windows are NOVEMBER 7-20, 2015 & JANUARY 9-22, 2016.  If your youth league session conflicts with these dates because of a league bye, contact your District Director for permission to move your qualifying window one week before or one week after. Every youth bowler should be given their FREE chance to qualify. (Youth leagues and youth bowlers must be USBC certified in order to participate).

Handicap and scratch scholarships will be awarded to the U8 & U10 divisions at the District Finals in March – they will NOT move on to the State Finals in May.  First place scratch finishers in the U12, U15 & U20 divisions at the District Finals will earn $50 scholarships.  These divisions are also competing to qualify into the State Finals for additional scholarships and FREE berths into the USBC Junior Gold Championships in Indianapolis, IN (if they have not already qualified).

For the 16th year in a row, www.BowlersParadise.com will be sponsoring this event along with www.EliteBowling.com. Also each pro shop in the eight hosting Pepsi District Finals will be donating a bowling ball for our fundraising raffle at each site to help us raise more scholarship dollars. Please visit these businesses and THANK them for their generous contributions by shopping at their establishments!

Thank you for your support and participation in one of the largest scholarship events in California.  Last year we worked extremely hard with your help in raising funds so that we could award over $55,000 in scholarships!  With the rising cost of education, this tournament strongly benefits many young bowlers on their way to a promising future.  Good luck and we'll see you out on the lanes!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1) ALL QUALIFYING SCORES ARE SCRATCH. The ratio from League Level to District is 1:2 per league/division/window (be sure to update BLS or Treasure software if applicable).  The ratio from District to State is 1:5 per division (U12/U15/U20).

2) California will run a separate HANDICAP division at the District Finals – Everyone will be entered! NOTE: If a certified “sport” league average is the youth’s only verifiable average, it will be adjusted per the chart in the USBC Rulebook to determine the correct entering average.

3) Champions in the U8 and U10 divisions at the District Finals (scratch) will earn a single entry ($80 value) into all four events of the California Youth State Championships to be held July 2016 in Lake Forest. First Place finishers (scratch) in the U12, U15 & U20 divisions at the District Finals will earn berths into the 2016 Diddy Watts Youth State Singles Challenge Semi-Finals (Aug).

4) IT IS THE State Finalist’s RESPONSIBILITY to check online to see if they qualified to the State Finals.  Qualifiers’ names will be posted before March 30.  All coaches will be emailed the same information.  Please help to notify your bowlers if they have qualified.  State Finals Registration (U12, U15 & U20 Divisions) is ONLINE ONLY at CalUSBC.com. RSVP WINDOW: MARCH 30 (9am) – APRIL 5 (7pm).

5) There will be a $10 entry fee due on-site for those competing in the State Finals at Fountain Bowl, Fountain Valley.

Please email the Tournament Director if you have any questions about this event or about Pepsi scholarships.

California has an outstanding history at the Pepsi International finals. From 1983-2008,
California has had over 20 top four finishers totaling over $60,000 in scholarships.
This proves that many of the top youth bowlers in this country are right here from California!

California awarded over $853,801 in scholarships since 1998.

CALIFORNIA PEPSI CHAMPIONSHIPS FORMAT

LEAGUE LEVEL QUALIFYING:  The Pepsi USBC Youth Championships begins with league level qualifying. Bowling centers with certified USBC Youth leagues are automatic free qualifying sites. Qualifying is held for two-week periods in November and January. A minimum of ONE (1) in every TWO (2) entries per division will advance from League competition to the District Finals.  All qualifying throughout the Championships are based on SCRATCH SCORES.

DIVISIONS ARE BASED ON THE PARTICIPANT’S AGE:
– BOYS U8, U10, U12, U15 & U20 DIVISIONS
– GIRLS U8, U10, U12, U15, & U20 DIVISIONS

Bowlers can opt to move up in division, but must sign a waiver to do so at the league level qualifying level.

DISTRICT FINALS (March):  California is divided into eight (8) Districts based on location and local USBC associations. Each district runs their own District Finals. One-time fee based on division. FORMAT: 3 games bowled on the same pair of lanes. Scratch and Handicap scholarships are awarded to the U8 and U10 divisions – these divisions do not advance to the State Finals. First place scratch finishers in the U12, U15 and U20 divisions will earn a $50 scholarship and are also competing to qualify (scratch) to the Pepsi State Finals. See tournament packet for District site locations, format, fees and District Director contact information.

  • Champions from the U8 & U10 divisions can earn a FREE entry into the Youth State Championships in July (4 Champions x 8 Districts = 32 entries).

  • California offers a separate handicap scholarship division per the same age divisions – automatic entry for everyone (100% of 210)

STATE FINALS - U12, U15 & U20 DIVISIONS (May):  Bowlers will advance from the District Finals (scratch) to the State Finals based on a ratio (see rules). BOWLERS MUST REGISTER THEIR SQUAD TIME IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE. FORMAT: 6 games scratch moving pairs after each game. Scratch and Optional Handicap (100% of 210) Scholarships will be awarded to each division.

USBC JUNIOR GOLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - U12, U15 & U20 DIVISIONS ONLY (July): California is allotted six FREE berths into the Junior Gold Championships (one per division). The top finishers in the U12, U15 & U20 divisions (scratch) may receive the berth if they have not previously qualified. If they already qualified, then the next available alternate will be taken in order of finish per division. All advancers must be Junior Gold program members. USBC will waive the $200 (U20), $150 (U15) and $100 (U12) entry fee for the U12, U15 and U20 division champions. All U.S. citizens are vying for a spot on USBC Junior Team USA to represent the United States in national and international competition. The California USBC Association will provide the U12, U15 & U20 Champions a travel stipend valued up to $400. Arrangements will be made by each athlete within stated guidelines and parameters from the California USBC Association.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - U8 & U10 DIVISIONS ONLY (July)The District Finals U8 and U10 division (scratch) Champions (32 total) will earn a single entry ($80 value) into all four (4) events of the California Youth State Championships to be held in July.  This berth is applicable only to the first place finishers and will be voided if they cannot attend or do not enter with a full team entry ($320). Event format: Team, Doubles, Singles and All-Events (scratch) based on average divisions. Ancillary scholarship events also held in conjunction with the State Tournament: Queens & Masters, Prince & Princess & Coaches Relief events are held every Saturday night at 7pm.
